OUR 159: “Batman Returns” aka Kenneth Scott!

img_95311

Kenneth Scott joins Brittany Johnson & Sascha Blume on Ol’ Ute Radio for the second time.

Scott talks about what he’s been up to since graduating from Utah. Right now he is enjoying some much-deserved time off, while staying in shape and getting his body ready for the next chapter of his life.

In addition to catching up with Scott, we talk about Pac-12 football and what the future of the conference looks like. Scott gives his opinion on which teams are dominant in the conference and whom he thinks will come out on top.

Scott didn’t just drop some football knowledge on us. He also entertained us with funny stories from his time at the U, the knowledge and inspiration his father instills in him (seriously the funniest story behind this…you’ve got to listen), and the interview ends on a more serious note with his take on the Colin Kaepernick!

People’s Podshow 007: Relationships (Part One)

IMG_8288

I usually schedule more than one guest per show because I don’t like to be stuck in the studio talking to myself. This Sunday was one of those solitary days where I had no one to talk to and my preparation time was wasted, which left me feeling pretty down. Lashing out at people was my normal way of dealing with situations like these, but I’m learning not to take things personally and looking to improving myself is a tactic I’ve used to help me in my dealings with others.

We all have relationships; some mean more to us than others, whether it is with a family member, friend or romantic partner.  The theme behind this show is self-evaluation and improvement of said relationships. Specifically, what are your flaws and how do you plan on improving them? Why?

Who can’t benefit from honest self-evaluation from time-to-time? My challenge to you is assessing your flaws and making a conscious plan to improve them on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. Challenge yourself to become a better person—your peers and the people who look up to you will notice — I am certain of it.

Patience, punctuality, and controlling the tone and pitch of my voice are some of the immediate goals I want to work on. In the long-term I have fleshed out plenty of goals, including: becoming more financially stable, earning an MSW (and maybe a PhD), saving for my son’s college, traveling to Africa (and many other places), starting my own non-profit, buying a home in Chicago… it’s a really long list. I encourage you to write down your goals and discuss the plans you have in respects to strengthening relationships. I need your help family.

Dirtpod 025: “Helmut Deep”

IMG_8018

This week, Allen is on vacation, so we asked our good friend, fellow KBER DJ and 20+ year veteran of Utah radio, Helmut Von Schmidt, to sit in and it was a blast.

From discussing bands that people like that we can’t, to hearing about how things have changed in the local music scene over the last 20 years, we have a great time playing with Helmut. (Wink wink).

Oh yeah, and F*ck Jimmy Buffet! Enjoy.

Toy Soup’s Podcast 03: “Once upon a time in the land of horse shit,” With Jason Wild

IMG_6577

Happy post-New Year!

After a small holiday break (Andrew experimented with surgery and lortabs while Troy just experimented) we have recorded a new podcast.

Bam! Smack! Slap!

Our good friend and fellow improviser Jason Wild from the local bad ass improv group Quick Wits joined us for our romp through the world of making shit up. It was fun and educational. Jason brought his bearded powers to the table and did not disappoint creating a hilarious array of characters, including a super creepy pedophile, thanks Jason…thanks for that.

So throw on some head phones and have a listen, but you might want to turn down the volume so you don’t offend everyone else in the room.

Stupid Questions 021: Senator Madsen

IMG_6502

A little over a week ago I was asked to be part of a show, I was warned that this wouldn’t be the usual stand up shows that I was used to. I was asked to open for a Utah State Senator. Why would I be asked to open for a Senator? Because this particular Senator is doing something very uncommon for utah. This Senator is Mark Madsen and he is sponsoring a medical cannabis bill Senate Bill 259.

I did the show and had a blast performing, but then was enlightened on the bill that Senator Madsen is trying to pass. I think what he talked about was important and I wanted to get more involved. After the show I asked him to be on this podcast, and we were able to set up an interview.

So here is that interview I talk to Senator Madsen about the medical cannabis bill he is trying to pass, his personal connection with medical cannabis, and what people can do to get more involved in the passing of this bill.

Thanks for listening and supporting both me and the show.

Huge thank to my producer Sascha Blume and the Earwhole Media Network.
